Plan weddings in the post COVID
I am a Dj in Montreal and in the process of receiving wedding cancellations for as far as September! With no certainty in the horizon, to-be-wed couples have no idea what’s going on and what to do!
So if you were planning a wedding in 2020 what is the best thing to do? If you are already together as a couple this might not be such a pickle. But there are many situations which make the timing of a wedding critical.
Couples in Canada
It may be advisable to conduct a modest wedding ceremony to get the wedding official. Couples start living together and begin their beautiful new life together.
Once COVID is out of the picture and life starts returning to normal, have a grand reception then! This is a good way to avoid the frustration of having to wait for such a life-altering event!
Couples Geographically Apart
This is the trickier part!
I have a lot of clients who were desperately searching for Indian, Punjabi & Hip Hop Djs and are now desperately seeking cancellations of the planned weddings. Whilst a reception at a wedding can wait, in many situations, the wedding itself cannot!
Spousal Immigration takes time and I know couples who have been waiting for two years to get their spouses into Canada after filing official papers. So it is obvious that some Indian or Pakistani or Punjabi couples, in particular, may want to move fast … very fast.
A usual solution is an online wedding. Once again the reception and celebrations can wait until things get back to normal. The advantage is time as the spousal application can be processed as soon as the official papers are filed with the respective immigration department. This route has worked for many many couples!
Advance Bookings
As and when life does get back to normal you can expect a huge influx of people wanting to do events pending for so many months. There will be a huge disparity between demand and supply as couples rush to celebrate their much-awaited union!
Getting advance bookings on Weddings Halls, Hotels, Caterers, Dj, Decoration and Videography might be a good idea to start with. The first timeline on the horizon might be the last quarter of 2020. However, please be very careful what you sign an acceptance on Terms & Conditions. Any vendor not flexible enough to easily move the booking to a future date due to COVID-related challenges needs to be avoided altogether at any cost! No compromise there.
