Birthday Party Ideas & Themes

Birthday Party ideas are hard to come primarily due to the fact that there are so many! I think if you google this phrase ‘Birthday Party ideas’ or ‘Birthday Party’ you will probably have one of the top hits on google search …. endless results ranging from kid’s Birthday Party Ideas to Birthday Party Games and Themes.

Everyone likes to share their great birthday party ideas but when it comes to selecting a top few that becomes a challenge somehow. A lot of clients hire us to Dj their kids’ birthday party and what I have seen in many birthday party ideas is that they start with the birthday party places or venues. This simplifies the remaining of the process as the choice for food and activities is narrowed down.

Once the birthday party place has been selected it becomes easier to select birthday party games as the area or free area of the venue commands what can and cannot be done. Treasure Hunt, Musical Chairs, Do you have … are but a few great and traditional birthday party games.

The birthday party theme is yet another piece to the puzzle especially amongst younger kids. But this is usually an easier topic for parents as kids already have their top cartoon character or superhero in mind that they want to see all over the birthday party place.

This means that the stage, backdrop, giveaways, cake, cutlery, almost everything has to follow the birthday party theme whether it is Sponge Bob or Super Man!

On the other hand, birthday party ideas for adults are somewhat simpler. Most birthday parties that we deejay at have a similar theme. Usually the birthday party begins with cocktails and cake-cutting followed by a few games. Ironically, the birthday party games for adults are not much different than the ones for kids … seriously!

Once the birthday party games are over, it usually transcends into dinner followed by opening the dance floor. The birthday dance party has tendency to run until the end of evening and undeniably it is the highlight of the evening. In a sort of way, the dance party endorses the success or failure of the events prior.

As somebody once pointed out that birthday party ideas differ from wedding party ideas in the sense that the birthday is only for one person. This exclusive stake in the event simplifies things as there is only one person to please as against two people in a wedding that also have their families very closely invested in the whole process.

Another thing different to a traditional birthday party is the fact that there are no set rules or expectations to meet. So that sort of keeps the stakeholders at peace as against what usually happens at a typical wedding party. We deejay a lot of Indian Weddings and English Weddings and have seen this pattern first-hand.

All in all, it is easy to say that organising a birthday party is much easier than a wedding. The author is a Dj operating in Montreal as DjD and specializes in the Fuzion form of music.
